Vincent Wilkinson is a qualified Social Worker, accredited member of the AASW and DVA registered provider. Vince has held a number of substantive professional roles that required a complex and clinical approach to assisting people from all works of life overcome systemic and personal barriers to achieving their life goals and improving their health, wellbeing and overall quality of life. Beginning his career in the shearing industry of Western Queensland, assisting others to overcome isolation in regional and remote locations, he then offered his support and leadership skills to working with and mentoring disadvantaged and marginalised young people, particularly young people in the youth justice system.
He has devoted 18 years as Queensland public servant with the Dept of Communities, Child safety and Disability Services, delivering case management services to people living with disabilities and complex mental health diagnoses. This work has also required him to work with dual diagnosis clients and their families to integrate Clinical Service support plans into Acute Mental Health support plans that contribute to forensic mental health reports. This often involved working with other statutory organisations that expected a high standard of monitoring and reporting and required compassion and empathy for people, especially when they were faced with personal and family crisis.
Vince’s skills have been developed and refined throughout his career and he is specialised in conducting biopsychosocial assessment and providing family counselling using a solution focussed / strengths based approach. Vince has found that this approach allows people to reconstruct the value of their role and focuses on the skills they already have allowing them imagine a better life and start to have some goals and plan towards achieving them.
