National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS)

The National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS) is a parallel or sister scheme to the NDIS and is aimed at managing the lifetime care and support of a individuals’ injury related needs from insurance based accidents. This includes motor vehicle accidents, workplace accidents, medical accidents and personal/community accidents.

Each state or territory will implement its own NIIS scheme – we are able to provide services to the following NIIS programs:

The services we offer include:

Independent Case Management

The role of Case Management is to assist you to access available and relevant resources necessary to attain identified goals.

Case Management intervention consists of the following key steps:

  • assessment / planning
  • implementation (coordination)
  • advocacy
  • linking client with rehabilitation and support service
  • monitoring
  • evaluation/review

The case management role navigates each phase of the case management process (as applicable) with careful consideration of a person’s individual, diverse and special needs, including aspirations, choices, expectations, motivations, preferences and values, and available resources, services and supports.

 

Social Work Services:
The case management role navigates each phase of the case management process (as applicable) with careful consideration of a person’s individual, diverse and special needs, including aspirations, choices, expectations, motivations, preferences and values, and available resources, services and supports.

Rehability Australia offers specialist Social Work services to individuals who are under NIISQ, I-care and TAC Schemes in accordance with the local state based legislation, to ensure individuals who suffer serious injury as a result of an accident are provided with rehabilitation and support to maximize independence, increase participation in the community, engage in employment and to meet their psychosocial needs.

Social workers are trained allied health professionals who are skilled in addressing the psycho-social needs of individuals. Psycho-social needs looks at the individual’s situation in the context of their psychological and social functioning. It considers a multitude of factors including physical, functional, psychological, social situation as well as personal, family, relationships and practical matters such as housing, finances, legal, community participation and occupational needs.

Social workers provide a unique role in that they not only focus on facilitating social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation for individuals through skill/capacity building, but unlike other professions, Social Workers have a duel focus on also identifying, addressing and navigating any external issues (known as system or structural issues) that may create inequality, injustice and discrimination, or may impact on wellbeing or an individual ability to achieve their identified goals.

Social Workers can assist participants in the following:

  • Counselling is offered to individuals and families to assist with:
    • Adjustment
    • Grief and Loss
    • Family and relationships
    • Post trauma therapy
    • Mental Health conditions
    • Alcohol and Drug addiction
  • Community participation – supporting individuals to identify, link and engage in community participation activities
  • Skill building:
    • Building self-management skills
    • Building resilience
    • Building interpersonal skills
    • Building relationships
  • Addressing practical matters – accommodation, transport, financial matters, legal matters
